Nanyuki sits almost exactly on the equator, on the northwestern flank of Mount Kenya, and has grown into the main service town for the region's mix of mountain trekking, Laikipia conservancy safaris and a long-established British military training presence dating back decades. That mix gives the town a genuinely cosmopolitan, functional energy distinct from a purely tourist-oriented gateway town.
Its position makes it a natural staging point for trips to Mount Kenya's Sirimon and Naro Moru routes, as well as Ol Pejeta and Lewa conservancies further into Laikipia, meaning most visitors pass through even if they don't linger.
