🌋 Overview

Nestled deep within Hell’s Gate National Park, the KenGen Olkaria Geothermal Spa is Africa’s first and largest natural geothermal health spa. It occupies about 4.5 hectares and features warm, mineral-rich lagoons, steam saunas, and panoramic views of volcanic hills and steam vents that define the Naivasha landscape.

Originally established as part of KenGen’s geothermal energy development, the spa now serves as both a wellness retreat and a demonstration center for geothermal innovations — including the use of natural steam and brine for saunas, heating, drying, and even agriculture.

The spa offers visitors a rare opportunity to bathe in naturally heated waters, enjoy relaxing body treatments, and learn about renewable energy in a scenic, wildlife-rich environment.

Wellness Meets Sustainability: Why We Champion and Highly Recommend the Olkaria Geothermal Spa at HellsGatePark.org

At HellsGatePark.org, we value the Olkaria Geothermal Spa not only as a place of relaxation but as a powerful example of sustainable innovation. The spa demonstrates how geothermal energy—naturally drawn from the volcanic activity beneath Hell’s Gate—can be harnessed responsibly to power recreation and wellness.

Unlike conventional resorts that rely on fossil fuels, it uses steam and hot brine from the earth to heat its mineral-rich pools and saunas, creating a zero-carbon, renewable system that mirrors the same clean processes powering thousands of Kenyan homes through KenGen’s geothermal plants.

This model perfectly reflects our mission to promote low-impact, eco-conscious tourism that protects the Rift Valley ecosystem. By showcasing geothermal energy in its purest form, not only for electricity but for recreation, learning, and community benefit, the Olkaria Spa stands as a beacon of conservation-driven tourism. Visitors can relax in its soothing waters while experiencing firsthand how science, sustainability, and nature coexist in harmony — one of the many reasons we highly recommend the Geothermal Spa at HellsGatePark.org.
